CLUE+ research meeting, related to the Portable Antiquities of the Netherlands (PAN) project:
Warfare, trade and migration of people and ideas. Archaeological connectivity research based on material culture from excavations and metal detected private collections.
Date: June 6, 2019
Location: Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, De Boelelaan 1105, room 14a-33
The PAN project is a citizen science project with the main aim to document and publish archaeological artefacts found and collected by members of the public. These private finds are highly relevant to archaeological research but never systematically documented and therefore not available for heritage studies and academic research.
The PAN project is largely an infrastructural project, aimed at designing the system and work together with private finders and collection owners. Now the project is about to enter its final year, the website is up and running (see http://www.portable-antiquities.nl) and actual research can commence. This research meeting is the first meeting of Dutch as well as international researchers, who study networks of people and goods in the past, including Dutch soil finds in a systematic way.
Access to this meeting is free and open to all, although it is necessary to reserve a seat by e-mailing to m.kars@vu.nl
