What is DAWN?
A day of free workshops on Digital Archaeology at the University of Amsterdam organised by the Digital Archaeology Group and CAA NL-FL. The sessions are aimed at beginner level and open to anyone with an interest in Digital Archaeology, including students, university staff and commercial archaeologists.
SCHEDULE:
WELCOME RECEPTION (9.00 – 9.45) Coffee and tea will be served
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION (9.45 – 10.00) Introduction by the organisation.
MORNING SESSION (10.00 – 13.00)
3D MODELING IN ARCHAEOLOGY (Please note this is the same workshop as last year)
This workshop will be aimed at digital 3D reconstruction of excavation data, and includes a practical tutorial in which you will step by step learn how to build a 3D model based on actual archaeological features.
Note: This session requires you to bring your own laptop.
PROGRAMMING IN R
Learn how to use the programming language R for archaeological data. We will show you how to work with archaeological datasets to do statistics and create graphs.
Note: This session requires you to bring your own laptop.
LUNCH BREAK (13.00 – 14.00)
Please note: to keep these workshops free, lunch is not provided, but you are welcome to take your own lunch or there’s the option to buy an affordable lunch at the university cafeteria.
AFTERNOON SESSION (14.00 – 17.00)
GIS & DATABASE INTEGRATION
Learn how to combine GIS with databases to create maps and do spatial analyses.
Note: This session requires you to bring your own laptop.
IMAGE-BASED MODELING IN THE FIELD
(Please note this is the same workshop as last year)
This workshop will introduce you to the basics of Image-based Modeling, will feature a hands-on case study showcasing the workflow and providing tips & tricks, and will finish with a discussion on applications in archaeological contexts.
Note: This session requires you to bring your own laptop.
DRINKS & SNACKS (17.00 – 18.00)
We will finish the day with some drinks and snacks.
