Menno Dijkstra and Arno Verhoeven will present the first results of the major excavation in the village of Leiderdorp this summer. On a future construction site a Carolingian river channel and settlement remains were excavated. Thanks to excellent conservation circumstances the campshedding along the river channel was well preserved, as were many finds of organic and non-organic matter. Menno will focus on the excavation methods and show some first results of the fieldwork and some of the finds. Arno will elaborate on the significance of the site in relation to larger trading sites in the Low Countries. How special is (and was) Leiderdorp anyway?
