On 1 June 2012 the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso addressed the audience of the European Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Monastery of Jerónimos, Lisbon.
Androulla Vassiliou, EC Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth and Plácido Domingo, President of Europa Nostra awarded the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards to the 28 winners from across Europe. Six Grand Prix winners were rewarded and one Public Choice Award nominated.
