The 4th European Heritage Forum take place on 10-12 October in Wroc?aw. This year, the theme of the Forum, organised by the Council of Europe, the European Commission and the National Heritage Board of Poland, is “Value the Heritage! European Heritage and Economic Development”. The Forum has been included in the official calendar of events accompanying the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
During the debates that are held in the Centennial Hall Congress Centre, issues concerning the economic potential of heritage in the context of creating regional and extra-regional development strategies is discussed. The meeting is an opportunity to look at heritage as a permanent element of long-term development strategies, especially during the financial and economic crisis. Various philosophies of the perception of heritage is presented as well, and current practices and standards valid for the field is discussed. The aim of the event is also to present heritage as an asset that can bring tangible benefits, both economic and social, and further the process of economic development in many countries. The participants of the meeting try to answer the questions of how we could measure such benefits and why we value heritage in the wider context of using its economic potential in sectors other than tourism.
